STRAWBERRY TIME IS THE BEST TIME

From May to September it's that time again: In this country, there are fresh strawberries that you either pick yourself or can buy in any supermarket. The popular fruit is suitable for many desserts and for the production of jam, tastes pure or as salsa to spicy dishes. In addition, it is a vitamin C miracle with few calories.

VARIED FRUITS

Strawberries were already eaten in the Stone Age, today they can be found almost all over the world. There are a total of 1,000 different varieties - which differ in shape, color, taste and firmness of the pulp. The different varieties combine the wonderfully sweet and refreshing taste, which is especially good in combination with dairy products - be it in yoghurt, in soy drink or with a dollop of cream.

 

ALREADY KNEW? STRAWBERRIES ARE PICKLE NUTS

Strawberries are considered kings of the berries, although botanically they belong to the Sammelnussfrüchte: The red Fruchtkörper is a false fruit, on which the so-called Nüsschen sit. There are also many polyphenols in strawberries. Polyphenols are phytochemicals designed to help prevent cancer and cardiovascular disease.

 

IMPORTANT TO DURABILITY AND USE

Unfortunately, the red color does not necessarily say something about the ripeness and taste of the strawberries, as there are also light red varieties. But what you should pay attention to when buying is a continuous coloring of the fruits.

Strawberries are best picked fresh from the field. Because strawberries are suitable for immediate consumption! The sweet fruits lose their flavor after just a few hours, so it is important to eat them as soon as possible. This is also the reason why local strawberries with lower transport distances taste better than imported goods.

Unwashed and covered you can keep the strawberries in the refrigerator for a maximum of two days, a flat container prevents pressure points. Important: Remove damaged or moldy fruits, so that they do not infect the others!

Before you eat them, you should wash the strawberries in the stagnant water - not under the stream of water. Then remove the stalk and the sepals and then you can start with delicious strawberry enjoyment without remorse!

FOR THAT YOU NEED FOR FOUR PERSONS:

  • 800 g of strawberries
  • 3 tbsp balsamic vinegar
  • 4 tbsp sugar
  • 1/4 coated ground black tsp pepper or pepper from the mill

Carefully mix the strawberries with the balsamic and the sugar first. Sprinkle the strawberries just before serving with the pepper.
